Thank you Mirian for this post that should stir our thinking about the most important questions about our purpose for being on this planet and the challenge that you present although not directly.
I am not surprised by anything anybody says anymore.
This of course doesn't mean that I have become cynical, but the older I grow and the more I observe the human race, I find that we have such a propensity to live in denial and have created a habit of feeling very comfortable in our inconsistencies and indulgence in self-forgiveness by saying or thinking, "after we all only human". Have you ever heard a mother or father saying about their child who has been caught in some mischief? “Oh, he is just a child or boys will be boys”. Their reasoning is on about the same level...
And then we show our lack of maturity and wisdom and enormous credulity by following any self-proclaimed guru or high-priestess who promise to give us answers in the form of enlightenment to the problems or questions in our lives at the tune of 100s or 1,000s of dollars of course, when the life eternal that Jesus promises for those who believe on Him is the free gift of God.
This is self-deception on a large scale; believe me I know from first hand experience because I was one of those deceived for 14 years. Jesus said the blind will follow the blind and both will fall in the ditch.

I once met and subsequently worked for a very nice Jewish lady and shared some quite interesting conversations. She was a retired English literature teacher and an avowed atheist.
To fill the void in her life she subscribed to a course in comparative religions offered by a liberal school. She affirmed that she didn't believe in God and had plenty of human reasoning and scientific knowledge to back up her convictions, but in the next breath, she declared that she loves the teachings of Jesus that she had studied and in fact was following Him as a disciple! Talk about a schizoid position!
All I could do is give her the only answers I knew to her human dilemma in kind words and deeds by loving her, showing patience while in our discussion keeping the high ground of truth without compromising the teachings of the One she thought she was following and performing my service in the best possible way to be a witness of the love of Jesus for her. Her gaze was on the problems created by fallible human beings and she refused to let Jesus open her spiritually blind eyes, solution without which she couldn't see the invisible Kingdom of God or the King, Servant, Healer, Teacher, Savior and Judge, the Lord Jesus. Keep on doing it.
